The Top 10 deadly predator in the wild :
A predator at the top of the food chain is tough. Predators need to kill and eat other animals to survive, but for many species most pursuits end in . Common predators include wolves, lions, cheetahs, and other big cats. However the success rate of each species can vary with pack animals more likely to successfully kill their prey.
Kill rates and functional responses are both influenced by diverse ecological variables. Kill rates defer between males and females, solitary individuals, social individuals, mothers with cubs, different age classes, individual fitness, prey availability, experience, etc.
Kill rates is the number of prey or biomass killed by an individual predator per unit time.
10.Polar bear – 2% successful kills:
Although about half of a polar bear’s life is spent hunting for food, their hunts are rarely successful. A polar bear’s main prey consists of ringed seals and bearded seals, which they hunt in a variety of ways.
Climate change is having dramatic effects on the Arctic sea ice, forcing polar bears to move greater distances and making it harder for them to catch prey.
9. Tiger – 5% successful kills
The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest living cat species. Tigers are great hunters and they hunt by ambushing their prey and killing it with a fatal bite to the neck. They live solitary . “The average minimum territory size for a female tiger is around 15-20 sq. km, Male territories can go up to 100 sq. Km.
The tiger has a muscular body with strong forelimbs, a large head and a tail that is about half the length of its. Elegance, strength, agility, and colossal power. Make tiger more powerful .So Tiger is our national animal.
wolves have a low success rate. One study shows that for every twelve moose tracked, only one was caught. Wolves are built for a feast or famine diet and can “wolf” down up to 20 pounds at one feeding.
7. Lions – 25% successful kills
Lions are the prototypical apex predator, but their hunting success rate is highly dependent on the number of lions participating – a single lion hunting in daylight has a success rate of 17-19%, but this rises to 30% when hunting in groups of three or more.
Lions are “King of the beasts”, Lions hunting strategies are calculated and unique. Mostly the lion attacks the bigger prey like cape buffalos, zebras, giraffes in groups. They stay hidden in the grass and let the prey to come close. They make a very stealthy and slow movement towards their prey and attack.
6. Domestic cat – 32% successful kills(28%were actually eaten)
Domestic house cats are highly skilled predators and outdoor cats living near or adjacent to natural areas are likely to prey on many of our nature neighbors. A domestic cat’s motivation to hunt is strong and even your well-fed cat will prey on local birds, small mammals, and reptiles
5. Leopard – 38% successful kills
leopards are exceptional hunters that prey on other animals in their ecosystem. Leopards often kill and eat small and medium-sized animals weighing between 20 and 80 kilograms.
Leopards are far bulkier, stronger and generally heavier than cheetahs. a grown leopard is strong enough to carry around 100kg of weight up a tree!
4. Cheetah – 50% successful kills
Cheetahs are considered “crepuscular” hunters, meaning they hunt at dawn and dusk. They most often hunt between 6:00 and 10:00 in the morning, and 16:00 and 18:00 in the evening. Some of the species they hunt include gazelle, springbok, and impala.
Cheetahs use their speed and nimbleness to take down faster and smaller animals. Lions use their power and strength to take down bigger animals.
3. Black-footed cat – 60% successful kills
The cats hunt throughout the night in all weather conditions and temperatures, taking only brief resting periods. Hunting success is very high with about one vertebrate prey animal caught every 50 minutes. On average, 10-14 rodents and small birds are killed in a night.
It lives in dry, open habitats such as desert, savanna and scrubland. it is considered to be the rarest cat in Africa.
2.spotted hyena – 75% successful kills
